"comic devised theatre at its best"

Must See

This clever, visually and verbally witty show is a wonderful hour’s sanctuary in a sometimes angst-ridden fringe. It’s the theatrical equivalent of a huge cream tea with dollops of naughty but nice stuff.
Liz Hague and Kate Mooney play our two hapless heroines, Daisy and Petunia, who pitch up in a little port called Beever. Wide-eyed and hilariously plummy, they find all is not as it seems, for where, they ask, are all the children?
Hague and Mooney bring to life an Under Milk Wood-like cast of misfits and caricatures through brilliantly energetic physical comedy, gesturing, mugging, hopping and crawling with mind-boggling energy. This is comic devised theatre at its best: knowing without being showy, conscious of physical theatre’s conventions and how to parody them.
Suffice to say Daisy and Petunia get into a lot of trouble as they delve into the village’s guilty secret. There’s shadow puppetry, exiles from Dickens, a mutant fish and a dismembered child all in tow. This is a show for children and adults alike, with laughs guaranteed throughout. It also has an underlying innocence that’s nothing short of beguiling.

"without a doubt tomorrow's top performers"

If only this wasn't the Edinburgh Festival, I'd go and see this one every day. With more talent than you can shake a stick at, this comic pairing is electric. You can almost see the volts jumping back and forth, as they nail every aspect of performance. They may look like two sweet young things, but be prepared for dark, sexual and devious undertones, amidst the jolliness of a light-hearted and yet comically primed storyline. The character comedy is particularly extraordinary - like a dampened-down 'League of Gentlemen' - except that they are, in actual fact, ladies. I enjoyed every moment and am even more impressed to learn that they penned the whole thing themselves. They are without a doubt tomorrow's top performers

"highly physical and enjoyable piece has great pace, absolute commitment by its 2 talented performers"

Something Fishy by Moonhag at Pleasance Courtyard is a delightful, ingenious and inventive two-hander. With little more than a few well chosen props, suspended by wire from the rig, Kate Mooney and Liz Hague seamlessly bring to life a multitude of weird and wonderful characters. Narrated by Petunia (aka Petty) and Daisy (a jolly hockey sticks duo if ever there ws one!) the action takes place in the supposedly idyllic seaside village of Beever. All is not what it seems however and dark forces are at work. Amongst the characters we meet are the brilliantly personified Cliff and his side kick Bernie, an ominous old hag and the swarthy Duke (played hilariously by both performers with a knowing wink at the audience). This highly physical and enjoyable piece has great pace, absolute commitment by its 2 talented performers and will leave you with a smile on your face a long time after!
