Matinee European Tour 2009

"Matinee" had the pleasure to survive their first time at the biggest arts festival in the world – The Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

This year's festival was the biggest yet in it's 63 years: 1,859,235 tickets were sold for 34,265 performances of 2,098 shows in 265 venues with an estimated 18,901 performers.

"Matinee" had 20 performances in 1 venue with 5 actors in 5 superhero costumes, 3 crew members, 3 umbrellas, 1 bike, 3 computers, 2.5 kilos of Jaffa Cakes, 9 reviews, 250 posters, 600 ml of cough syrup, 15000 flyers and tons of fun.

After 26 days in Edinburgh and 8 hours in Israel we headed off to Slovakia for 3 more days, had 2 sold out performances at the Kremnicke Gagy International Humour Festival, 20 hours of sleep and 17 litres of red wine.

In short, we had an Awesome August and for that we'd like to thank:

The Audience

Jerusalem/Israel

Director Tzvika Fishzon
Nissan Nativ Acting Sudio

Hazira Interdisciplinary Arena, Jerusalem

Last show today (Aug. 26). Thanks for a wonderful festival!

Here we are, on our way to perform our last show for the Festival. We had such a great time, we can't begin concluding the Festival because... well.. we still have one more show, have to hop on a plane to Israel for 12 hours and hop back on a plane to Slovakia, for the Kremnicke Gagy Humor Festvial. If you're in the area, come see us! :)

We'd like to thank Pleasance for all their help and the wonderful crew they've put together, it's been a pleasure, Pleasance.

We'd also like to thank the Fringe, Hazira Interdiscplinary Arena in Jerusalem, Nissan Nativ Acting Studio, Tzvika Fishzon, the Embassy of Israel and Foreign Ministry and countless others who've been of great help.

But most of all we'd like to thank you, the audience, for such a great festival. Without you guys non of this could have happened. :)

See you around,
Matinee Ensemble

Matinee's arms are tired, but enjoying the view

After a long journey from Jerusalem, Matinee Ensemble is concluding their first week at the Fringe – exploring the path from unanimously anonymous to pleasantly popular. The five actors started with an audience of 6 (3.3% full) on their first show, an increasing flow of audience dripping in and a steady stream starting to pour after the first weekend. Anyone know a good plumber?

Superheroes in Edinburgh are not a rare sight these days, thousands of actors from around the globe show super-human skills trying to attract a few more seats from the hundreds of thousands passing by. The Matinee superheroes have been wearing their beer-proof suits from the moment they landed, adjusting to the cool climate (runny noses) and beautiful buildings (clogged pipes), Edinburgh is truly a home away from home.

"The audience is absolutely great, the more there are, the louder they laugh. The audience gets Five Stars!"
